team members
Any student between Grades 9 and 12 are welcome to join the team. Students must make a minimum of 3 team practices a week in order to be eligible to compete, at at least 20 practices in total to be considered for the TDCAA Championships. Attendance will be taken at the beginning of each practice. Team members are expected to be prompt (practice begins at 3:10pm!) and dressed appropriately for the weather. They should bring water bottles with them to each practice. Practices will run from 3:10pm until at least 4:15pm. When the outdoor training season arrives, practices will likely run closer to 4:30, or in the case of the Jumps Squad 5:00pm. Team members are encouraged to remain at practice until the end of the workouts to ensure proper skill development, and to allow their muscles to cool down appropriately. Students must see a teacher-coach if they need to depart earlier.
When competition season begins, each athlete will have the opportunity to compete in up to 3 individual events, plus a relay at each competition. This decision will be made by the student in partnership with the coaching staff. Students are encouraged to try new events - hurdles, and some jumps and throws events are different from elementary school! ALL team members MUST compete in at least ONE competition to be considered for the TDCAA Championships. This is non-negotiable. Relay teams leading up to the TDCAA Championships will be decided based on student interest, event times and attendance. The teams will consist of all students eligible up until the TDCAA championships; the members for this team will be decided based on results and attendance. The teams can and will change with each meet, since the early competitions are open and invitational. Positions within the relays can/may change as the coaching staff and athletes determine areas of strength of individual athletes and whole teams. Since advance notice is provided (the schedules are posted under FORMS), students who opt to compete at each competition are reminded that entry fees have been paid for their selected events. It is expected that all athletes show up for their scheduled events. If there are extenuating circumstances, please email or speak to the coaches. Student athletes are reminded that they must travel to and from Centennial Stadium on their own (either by TTC or parent driving). Athletes should arrive at least ONE hour prior to their scheduled events, with appropriate clothing, footwear, water and snacks/lunch. |
Team philosophy
By joining the Bishop Allen Track & Field Team, students and coaches are embarking upon a journey filled with hard work, sportsmanship, leadership, and above all, enjoyment. The coaching staff wants all team members to develop their track & field skills in a safe and welcoming environment. All levels and abilities are welcome on our team. We hope each individual athlete improves and competes to the best of their abilities, and continuously improves their personal bests, so that they can become the best they can be! It is always about reaching our best potential; it is always about setting individual goals and then running/throwing/jumping the heck out of them; it is always about sportsmanship and friendship. We are first and foremost, as Ms. Skeath likes to say, "a family of trackies." Bishop Allen Track & Field prides itself on being one of the best teams in the city - not just because our results are outstanding. More importantly, we are the best because of the fact that we cheer for each other, we share in each others' highs and lows, and we push each other to work harder and perform better. Our team work, sportsmanship and leadership set us apart from other teams! Go Cardinals!
